Reality Estate was a large-scale site-specific performance which arose out of our three year residency at the Curio City Shop.  A choir of over three hundred sang stories based on interviews with residents of Five Ways Estate in a promenade performance including a 24 screen ‘virtual choir’, guided by resident/performers in  a celebration of an overlooked part of  the city of Birmingham.

So we assembled an incredible team of artists to make it happen:

Sanj Kavanagh and Si Walker continued to work on all aspects of the project, continual community engagement with their usual verve and joi de vivre

Mark Storor directed the performance in his usual incredibly deep, meaningful and fun way, George Saxon created a unique virtual choir from film of residents and choirs practicing,  Dutch composer Merlijn Twaalfhoven created a score based on interviews with residents.

Here’s a slideshow of some of the artists in action during the lead up to the show:

and a slideshow of the performance itself:

Despite a day that started cold, windy and wet, a few minutes before we were due to start the clouds disappeared to reveal a full moon in all its glory, shining over the event. It just added to the special feel of the show and the place.  The event was an incredible success, despite the complexities of dealing with a crew that numbered almost 500 ,we managed to pull it off in grand style.

But don’t take our word for it:
