We’re looking for a (preferably, but not necessarily) young producer to partner with us on developing a season of events at the Edge during 2021. We want to see work that is responsive to the world we live in, and representative of and relevant to the people of Birmingham. We want challenging, intelligent work that mashes up artforms and audiences.
Friction works in partnership with artists and producers, where equality is at the forefront – we prefer to work with people, rather than employ them. This project is not for the fainthearted or those looking for shortcuts, you’ll need to build a programme and audiences for the work you’re producing, building on an eclectic range of work produced at the Edge over the last 12 years. You will need to work hard and you will be challenged. It will be extremely rewarding and loads of fun.
The proposed programme will consist of music, performance, live and visual art, poetry, activism, film and any possible combination of the above.
We will work with you on raising funds, marketing and organising things, providing technical expertise and event-making wisdom – but it will be your ‘baby’. There will be a learning curve to negotiate which will stand you in great stead for the future.
If this is just the thing you’ve been looking for, send an expression of interest to firstname.lastname@example.org introducing yourself and setting out some of your ideas to approaching this challenge, and your previous experience in this field and we’ll get back to you. Likewise if you want any further information. There is no deadline for this opportunity, we’ll keep going until we find the right person.
In the words of a very wise man, to infinity and beyond!
