Friction Arts are on a quest to find the right Lead Artist/ Tutor to work with an inspiring group of young people with different needs, abilities and SEN. Our Art Club is a free, weekly term-time Club, which supports young people aged 8-18 yrs old to explore their culture, work and spend time with their alternative peer group and develop their artistic skills. This Lead Artist/ Tutor will already have experience in working with young people in the Arts and will also be excited to develop their skills and ideas in culturally responsive, participant-led workshops.

Hosted by Friction Arts, we are seeking a practitioner with the experience of supporting young people to express themselves and their worlds through the prism of the Arts.

This Lead Artist/ Tutor will be working alongside artists from our wider team as well as managing a dedicated Art Club team, many of whom are former Art Club members.

Application deadline: Midnight Monday 26th Jan 2026

Short listing Tuesday 27th Jan 2026.

Interviews will be held at The Edge,; Wednesday 28th Jan 2026

Short listed applicants asked to deliver a morning or afternoon session with young people of Art Club; and will include a Youth Panel interview  on Saturday 31st of January (this will be paid regardless of outcome).

You will be notified of the outcome of your application on: Monday 2nd February 2026.

Expected start date: to be confirmed with candidate, depending on circumstances.

Part time: 0.4 FTE (term time)

Salary: £33-35,000 pro-rata, dependent on experience

Fixed term: 2 Years.

Based at: the Edge, Digbeth, Birmingham B12 0QH

Responsible to: The Artistic Director

Delivery: Saturday, term time only, with flexible working sessions for special events. *we will ensure that there is appropriate time off arranged.

There will also be 1 day a week allocated during delivery/term time for admin, planning, evaluation, training days. Also .5 days per week during non-term time for admin, planning, evaluation etc.
