CREATE Festival Youth led and loud – more to come

What a fab weekend we had at the CREATE festival! The Edge was buzzing with energy, and it was incredible to see so many young people come together to share, create, and connect.
Rolla jam, Games, and Imagination
The Festival kicked off, rolling into the festival with a road closure for a roller jam with Empress Gibbs and Skate Buddies! The street outside The Edge became a playground for skaters, with high-energy mix from DJ Ken.
It opened up conversations about our streets and what we do in them, young and old:
It’s been a weird Journey. So I literally all types of people skate from young to old. There’s a big social thing as well…it’s a good cardio, it’s good. It’s a good cardio, you sweat a lot. Even when it is cold, 10 minutes later, you’re already sweating. It’s good for your legs, it’s good for the mind. It’s not just a physical thing. It’s a mental thing. So it’s good for the mind, you know, for me. It’s a nice peaceful safe place. as well.
Art and Activism
Our carboard forest came to life with creatures big and small, in collaboration.with Friends of the Earth volunteers and our own arts club team. Neoliberalizard and Sandra led an artivist workshop – How do we choose our battles? What strategies work best? The group explored everything from micro-actions to long-term community-wide plans and took direct action with a selection of one-hour paste-ups.
On the ground floor, Brian Homer, Emma, and B&E were busy running a workshop where people could create their own unique self-portraits. It was a great opportunity for everyone to get creative and see themselves in a new light.
Music, Archives and Self-Portraits
Young artists like “Not Soup” Kris, Evie L.A., Trevanee, and KAP took to the stage, showcasing their incredible talent, while Manon took scissors to the archives (copies only) to inspire collage.
Lily joined Brian Homer and his team to take portraits, or self-portraits in our newly refurbished Edge.
Games, Games, Gaming
The red studio became a chill out cave filled with Lego, games, and stuff It was a space for quiet creativity and cosplay, while on the ground floor The Active Wellbeing Society provided Giant Jenga, Connect 4, and badmington.
Jago hosted a gaming packed mini-convention and let’s not forget Olga and the fabulous food and the ever-popular marble run.
A huge thank you goes to our Young Producers, the art club, Heidi, Santhanha, Alison, and everyone who has contributed to CRE@TE.
This festival was just a taste of what’s to come. We have more announcements, events, and a youth-led D.I.Y. program on the horizon as we roll out the “Neo-Edge” in the coming months.
