Current artist in residence Jose Witteveen
We’re really pleased to be hosting Rome-based Dutch artist Jose, over July and August. Jose is an artist, photographer and master printmaker and is being hosted at the Edge and working over a range of our current projects.
In her own words: ‘ Jose Witteveen, an artist in residence at Friction Arts this month, lives in Rome and has a diverse educational background, having studied art and philosophy, which have significantly influenced her creative
pursuits. Apart from her artistic endeavours, Jose is deeply involved in the community, working in various social centres (squats) in Rome. In these centres, she generously imparts free teachings to people, sharing
her knowledge and passion for art with the community.’
‘Throughout her residency at Friction Arts, Jose will conduct masterclasses, deliver performances, and construct an installation. Emphasizing the project Orlando, she aims to engage in numerous collaborations that span the realms of printmaking, photography, and performance art. Collaboration holds a central place in Jose’s artistic practice and her current focus is on the ongoing project “Orlando.” This series draws inspiration from Virginia Woolf’s novel of the same name, renowned for its unconventional structure and profound exploration of themes such as identity, gender, and the passage of time—a subject of importance in Jose’s artistic practise.’
Jose will have a performance and installation launching at the Edge, B12 0QH,
on Friday 4th August from 5pm until 7pm
